There’s No “I” in Team

We walked into Build25 in Charlotte, N.C., at the start of April a little giddy. It’s one of our favorite shows that covers products, services and solutions from all markets, including drywall, ceilings and acoustics, lath and metal framing, plaster, EIFS, insulation, software

and more. At this and every trade show, we appreciate connecting with customers and those in the industry who want to learn more about our products and creating curves in soffits, walls and ceilings.

This year, we had a little extra pep in our step to grab the show issue of Walls & Ceilings magazine. The cover story features Talon Commercial Services, Tulsa, Okla. We are connected to the company via a collaboration for an install at the Salina Health Center in Salina, Okla.

There are about 500-600 pieces of Flex-Ability Concepts products at the center, including: Flex-C Trac 1/2-inch 20 gauge, 3 5/8-inch 20 gauge, 6-inch 20 gauge, 6-inch 18 gauge and 6-inch 16 gauge, as well as Flex-C Angle 20 gauge. Curves are all over this center! We introduced the project in the February blog, where we reviewed the importance of a distributor-contractor relationship.

The Walls & Ceilings story goes beyond an introduction and dives deep into the story of one of the Talon Commercial Services’ founders, Bowie Skaggs. Skaggs, who grew up poor in a Native American home in Oklahoma, has worked in construction since he was 17. The story starts with a lesson that Skaggs exudes every day (and a quote that is displayed at the office of Talon Commercial Services): “If you are not prepared to put the team first, turn around.”

There really is nothing like being part of team, whether that is with your co-workers or within your greater industry. We feel it in the culture that we have created at Flex-Ability Concepts. The team approach extends to the relationships with our customers and distributors. We also have our product representatives who only strengthen all of our customer connections.

It is undeniable that we are proud to see the curves at Salina Health Center and to read about them in print. But we take a higher level of pride in seeing Skaggs and his teammates at Talon Commercial Services receive recognition for their approach to business. Skaggs proves there is no “I” in team. He also shows how he and his partners built a company based on hard work, kindness, accountability, trust, and listening to and learning from life’s lessons. That is a story we all can get behind.
