Home Expansion

When Tim McGuire, production supervisor for Green Country Interiors in Tulsa, undertook a 2,000 sq. ft. expansion of his own home, he naturally selected two products that he was quite familiar with--Flex-C Plate™ and Flex-C Angle, both from Flex-Ability Concepts.

Both products provide an easy way for builders to frame high quality curves by utilizing a simple, flexible metal track or plate for use with wood or metal studs.

“I love to work with curves and radiuses, particularly in remodeling jobs,” McGuire said. “We use Flex-C Trac all the time in our commercial work. It’s a great product.”

Green Country Interiors is Tulsa’s largest drywall and ceiling contractor and McGuire supervises the company’s 250-man field crew.

For his massive great room addition, McGuire used approximately 300 feet of Flex-C Plate to create dramatic arches and distinctive radius highlights. He also used 250 feet of Flex-C Angle for deep curved soffits.

Flex-C Angle uses the same labor-saving design as Flex-C Plate but is ideal for applications where the second leg of the track would interfere with perpendicular framing components. “I can do anything with it,” according to McGuire. “I can come 9 inches down to virtually nothing.”

Before joining Green Country, McGuire worked in the remodeling business with his father, doing primarily wood jobs. “I like to work with the combination of metal and wood in remodeling and expansion projects. The materials blend and intermix very well. Using lots of arches and curves and radiuses can really ‘spiffy up’ a renovation. The Flex-C Trac products make that possible. Doing lots of curves is just not practical using traditional wood framing that takes so much more time.”

Flex-C Plate is made of 20 gauge galvanized steel and is available in 2 x 4 and 2 x 6 widths. Flex-C Trac, used primarily for commercial construction, is made of galvanized steel in 16 and 20 gauges in a wide variety of widths.

Flex-C Angle is available in 20 gauge galvanized steel. Flex Lite, a new light duty alternative, is also available in 25 gauge galvanized steel.
